Advocacy

The fundamental principle LOU is built on is that of advocacy. Whether it be for individuals and their families, salary increases for Direct Support Professionals, or changes in legislation, LOU takes its role as an advocate most seriously. As such, LOU has been fortunate to have bipartisan support as we work daily to ensure the rights of people with developmental disabilities.

We take our role in our clients’ lives very seriously…

LOU has always been known to be outspoken when it comes to their clients’ rights. In 2004, LOU lobbied for an individual to be able to return to her group home on hospice, an action that has now benefitted countless individuals living in group homes throughout the state. We’ve worked independently and collaboratively to shape legislation affecting the lives of our population both with sister agencies, as well as through our professional association, NJACP.

We pride ourselves on not allowing systemic bias to infringe on the human rights of our clients. LOU has defended our clients’ rights to the Office of Licensing, Bureau of Guardianship Services, and the Ombudsman for Individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities and Their Families.

Modern day advocacy…

[TLP] or [The LOU Project] aims to promote and raise awareness of the disabled agenda. For far too long disability has taken a back seat to other issues. Now is the time to have our voices heard…
